The VP, Investment Accounting as a member of the Finance leadership team, leads, manages and establishes strategy for all aspects of the investment accounting function, regulatory and GAAP, for the Company's consolidated investment portfolio and various subsidiaries including derivatives.
This role evaluates the needs for investment information for internal and external users, and develops reports that provide information needed for effective decision making and assessment of invested assets and related income.
The VP Investment Accounting establishes and executes the strategic plan of RGA's Investment Accounting function, including Information Technology related matters, in conjunction with the strategic plan of the Investment Department, supports new business opportunities, acquisitions, investment strategies and due diligence efforts for investment related matters, while maintaining an effective internal control environment over investments.
Responsibilities Effectively manage and develop a staff of highly motivated and competent professionals; drive results and ensure that accountability for those results reside with each member of the teamAct as primary liaison with other parts of the organization including finance, tax, treasury and investments, including RGA's Chief Investment OfficerEnsure accurate month-end, quarter-end and annual reporting of balances relating to investment assets, liabilities, expenses and income for GAAP, regulatory, tax and management-basis accounting.
Responsible for all investment related accounts, analyses, reports.
Presents investment performance to RGA Sr.
Management.
Works directly with and supports RGA's Chief Investment Officer and senior level Investment Department personnel to ensure alignment and integration with the Company's investment goals, strategies, compliance related matters and reporting needs.
Responsible for providing support to Investment Portfolio managers and business development personnel on accounting for new and unique investment strategies, including derivative and hedge related strategies.
Supports new business opportunities, acquisitions and due diligence efforts for investment related matters.
Coordinates communication with external advisors and service providers, as well as local accounting offices to ensure clear understanding of investment risks and exchange of data for proper accounting and management reporting.
Initiates and leads projects that improve the efficiency of processes, improves management reporting, and strengthens the controls over investment accounting.
Works directly with Information Technology to implement new system solutions and Investment Accounting IT strategy.
Assesses potential investment risks through development of analytic reports to review potential asset impairments, credit concentration and unrealized losses.
Leads and manages work area activities including, but not limited to, team/department workflow, establishing and monitoring quality goals, reviewing work completed by direct reports, ensuring quality investment accounting practices and communication to associates and management.
Performs management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports.
Fosters a positive and engaged work environment.
Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development.
Works with other functional areas and business segments on a global basis to achieve efficient and effective accounting and reporting practices and procedures and responds to and requests from other functional areas and business segments on various inquires.
Collaborates with other members of the Finance leadership team to develop goals/plans/budgets that align with division and company objectives and then manages to those expectations.

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience12
years accounting or auditing experience w/ at least 7 years of investment accounting experience and advanced experience in Statutory and GAAP accounting10

This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act.
The pay range for this position in Colorado is $167,045 - $225, 245 per year.
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location.
