Description:
Catalyst Laboratory Technician is responsible for evaluating new or improved technologies for sulfuric acid catalysts using laboratory process equipment and pilot plant reactor operations. Level of work experience is 7 to 10 years or more (bachelor's degree is recommended) with a focus on learning laboratory methods, helping with catalyst evaluations, and complementing current skills. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES o Provide technical support using laboratory or pilot plant reactors for evaluation of catalysts under specific operating conditions using gas chromatographic analytical methods o Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory reactors such that the results obtained validate the reactor operations and methods used. o With guidance from experienced laboratory personnel, set up and run experiments for laboratory, pilot plant, or plant studies. o Use computer tools such as MS Word, Excel, and equipment operating software to complete catalyst evaluations. o Ensure that all experimental work meets the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) guidelines and is done in a safe manner. Prepare documentation for safety audits when needed by SHE. o Propose designs for experimental equipment or facilities, and work with vendors, craftsmen, or other technicians to build the resulting system. o Help supervisor analyze the data from various types of experiments and interpret the results. Communicate the results to the supervisor and other appropriate personnel by means of databases (Excel and Access), written documentations (MS Word), and oral presentations (PowerPoint). o Understand the details of running the experiments, using the appropriate laboratory equipment, and safe testing and handling of the chemicals required for testing. o Complete lab experiments on evaluation of catalysts and processes for chemists and engineers. o Develop analytical and computer software skills to perform the experiments. Analyses required for experiments include gas chromatography, titration chemistry, electrical conductivity and pH measurements, familiarity with thermal analyses, and X-ray techniques Approximately 12 month assignment.
